It is safe to say that our children undergo stress on their bodies on a regular basis.

The first stress that many children receive is from the birthing process itself, followed by the hundreds to thousands of falls and accidents, sitting in school all day, sports traumas, posture challenges, and smart phone use coupled with emotional and chemical stressors to name just a few.

This Issue..

These stressors can lead to your child living in a chronic stress response. We call this sympathetic imbalance. The sympathetic nervous system controls your fight or flight response. Prolong sympathetic dominance can lead to symptoms such as aches, pains, and headaches; but more importantly can result in functional concerns. Common function issues include lowered immune system function, digestive issues, ADD/ADHD, autism and countless others!

The Solution..

At Adapt Chiropractic, we offer a natural option by gently and precisely removing the neurological stress, and improving structure to help children thrive and become the best versions of themselves. This promotes neural balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, balancing the brain to develop, adapt, and thrive at it’s highest potential. Nothing brings us greater joy than to watch their young lives improve and thrive.

Common Pediatric Concerns

Raleigh Chiropractor Ear Infections

Ear Infections

Vertebral Subluxations in the Atlas or Axis (top bones of the neck) will affect head tilt and the angle of baby’s Eustachian tube. The Eustachian tube is what drains fluid and pressure from the inner ear. If this tube is blocked or poorly angled, fluid and pressure will build up in the inner ear. This can become infected, leading to ear infections or chronic colds.

Latch and Breastfeeding Concerns

Vertebral subluxations (misalignments) in the upper neck will affect a babies ability to properly latch to the breast. Due to the misalignment affecting:

  • Improper Tongue and Lip Control

  • Deviated Jaw Movement

  • Preferred Head Rotation

  • Neural Coordination of the masticatory (swallowing) muscles

Raleigh Chiropractor Colic

Colic / Reflux

Inflammation to the nerves of the upper back will affect the cardiac sphincter of the stomach. This is the door that seals the stomach from the esophagus. If this muscle is weak due to poor nerve supply, then it will not properly seal the stomach. This can lead into gas and reflux.

Raleigh Chiropractor Asthma

Torticollis / Head shape

Spinal misalignments at a young age will affect muscle development and symmetry. This can lead to a preference in head rotation. Prolonged head rotation leads to flat spots in the cranium. Abnormal head shape will dramatically effect neural development and muscular balance.

The FIRST Trauma

Birth in its many different forms can be quite traumatic. While each birth is unique, there is always a chance that the baby suffers some sort of strain due to the pull and twist often required to extract baby. Even the most natural births can result in trauma that goes undetected. As researcher G. Gutmann has written,

“The trauma from the birth process remains an underpublicized and therefore significantly under-treated problem.”

What can cause birth trauma?

  • Very short labor

  • Very long labor

  • Failure of the cervix to dilate

  • Use of Pitocin to strengthen/induce uterine contractions

  • Use of forceps or vacuum extraction

  • Cord around baby’s neck

  • Cesarean delivery

  • Pulling or twisting on the head
